(FAQ)A Simple Tip to Avoid a Common Shunt Resistor installation Mistake

Accurate current measurement starts with proper component installation. For high-precision current sensing, understanding shunt polarity is critical—it’s the difference between a reliable reading and a significant error.
A shunt resistor doesn't actively generate a positive or negative voltage. Instead, it creates a voltage drop, and the polarity of that voltage is determined by the direction of current flow. This simple principle is why correct installation is non-negotiable for consistent performance.
To ensure your system gets a predictable, positive feedback signal, follow these simple but crucial guidelines for our shunt resistors:
Installation Method: Orient the shunt so the notched corner is on the bottom right. This is your visual guide.
Current Direction: Ensure the current flows from the left input to the right output.
This deliberate design feature acts as a mistake-proofing (poka-yoke) element, preventing incorrect installation and guaranteeing that your measurements are always aligned with your expectations.
